Amid the sounds of car horns, rickshaws and mopeds, the maelstrom of smells from the bazaars and the smoke of incense from sacred sites, the atmosphere is sultry and effervescent. About Astier de Villatte

Created in 1996, Astier de Villatte has many facets:

– An artisanal ceramics workshop in Paris, the only one of its kind, which takes up and modernises the tradition of Parisian manufacturers of the 18th century.

– A typographic printing press in the Paris suburbs, the last in France (and one of the last in the world) to print lead books.

– A publishing house, with three first publications, the atypical guide Ma Vie à Paris, the art book Drawings with the poly-talented artist Lou Doillon and now the new edition of Mitsou de Balthus.

– A perfume creation workshop where, in collaboration with exceptional noses, colognes, incense and a whole collection of scented candles on the theme of an olfactory world tour are invented.

In 2008, it was a novelty, a scented dishwashing liquid launched for fun at the store and sold in the thousands, which propelled them into the magical world of scented products. With their associate, Emilie, in collaboration with Françoise Caron, star perfumer at Takasago, a Japanese fragrance creation company, they launched their Eau de Cologne, their Hand Care and their first collection of scented candles on the delirious theme of a olfactory world tour. Over the years, the collection of scented candles and eau de cologne grew, thanks to the creativity of other highly talented perfumers, including Nathalie Feisthauer, Alexandra Monet and Christophe Raynaud.

Eager to extend the range of perfumes for the home, Benoît and Ivan leave for Awaji, the island of Japan specialised for hundreds of years in the manufacture of the best incense in the world. Thus begins a new adventure, combining the know-how of Awaji’s family workshops with that of the great Parisian perfumers.

More than collaborations, for Astier de Villatte it’s about stories of friendship and aesthetic affinities leading to the creation of a universe that wants to be unique in its kind.

Today about fifty workers, mostly Tibetans, work in the manufacture of ceramics and Astier de Villatte lamps, two people are employed by the printing works, and about fifteen people are divided between the two Parisian shops and the offices

The Delhi candle is a spicy plunge into the heart of the old town. Narrow back streets; buildings upon buildings; an overheated atmosphere - a thousand heady flavours rise to your senses: betel, benzoin, musk and myrrh, flushes of smoked wood, vanilla emanations, herbal and eucalyptus beedies.

Contains essences of Vetiver, Cardamom, Nutmeg, Indonesian Gurjum, Patchouli, Myrrh, Vanilla, Musk and Olibanum Accord.

The wax formulation, plant-based with a touch of beeswax, is unique. Free from paraffin or petrochemical derivatives, and therefore free from soot, its exceptionally supple and tender texture is a guarantee of its purity. The wax, worked for a long time, is perfectly miscible with the perfume, releasing the scent both hot and cold. The wick, woven in pure cotton, ensures combustion without traces, lasting and perfect for 60 to 70 hours, depending on the scent. Handcrafted blown glass tumblers from Tuscany have a transparent, slightly grey colour, and light bubbles, giving them a unique and timeless appearance. Labels and packaging are lead-printed on old presses by SAIG, one of the last typographic workshops in the world.

Precautionary measures:

At no time should any burning candle be left unattended. Keep lighted candles out of reach of children and pets. Keep the wick trimmed to 5 or 6 mm, this length should be maintained thoughout the burning process. Ensure that the wick maintains its central position. Extinguish any candle that smokes excessively (check instructions before relighting). Do not burn a candle on a flammable or fragile surface. Do not let a candle burn for more than three consecutive hours.

The best incense in the world is found on the island of Awaji, due to its favorable climate. For more than a thousand years it has been made here by the Koh-shis or Masters of Aromas, a tradition passed down from father to son. They alone perfectly master the four stages of production: the dosage of exclusively natural materials, precious woods, herbs, plants, vegetable resins, and perfume; the kneading of the dough, pressed and worked for a long time, then left to stand for two weeks to soak up the fragrance; the cutting of the dough, rolled into long, narrow ribbons, to the desired size; then drying in the west wind for three days before bundling the sticks.

Precautionary measures:

Light the end of the stick with a match, blow out the flame and leave to smoke. Plant the stick in an incense burner or a bowl of sand. Do not use in a flammable environment. Do not leave burning without supervision. Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Burning time 30 minutes each.

The Diamant ceramic tumbler, with its faceted surface, evokes Renaissance architecture and the famous Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, was designed to hold Astier de Villatte candle refills.

Ceramic handmade in Paris, stamped with the Astier de Villatte monogram and the initials of the artisan who crafted it.

Designers of furniture and white ceramics Ivan Pericoli and Benoît founded their company Astier de Villatte in 1996 in association with friends and family. Successor to the Parisian manufactures of the 18th century, satire de village is now the only major studio to keep the tradition of artisanal ceramic production in Paris alive. In 2000, they opened the boutique at 173 rue Saint Honoré, which also presented their other creations for the home: titanium cutlery, borosilicate glassware and above all the wonderful collection of traditionally printed notebooks.

In 2008 they decided to join forces with Japanese fragrance company Takasago and together begin creating luxury scented products. Working with their associates Emilie Massed and Françoise Caron, the star perfumer at Takasago fragrance Astier de Villatte’s range of scented products was born.

Poised on its rock, a haunted castle. The aromatic vapours of a pure single malt, damp cedar wood, mossy stones and beeswax mingle with coolly mysterious mineral notes. Exclusive, natural and pure, this candle contains no paraffin or other petrochemical by-products. Vegetable wax candle, cotton wick.

Egypt is one of the most exclusive fragrances created by Albert Fouquet. In 1935, Albert decided to fulfil a promise made to visit Ahmed, a childhood friend, and accomplish one of his dreams at the same time. Albert was fascinated by ancient Egyptian culture and while visiting his friend in Egypt he could enjoy lengthy tours of the Great Pyramid of Giza, as well as the temples of Luxor and Hatshepsut.

For Albert Fouquet, the visit was also an opportunity to travel to the birthplace of perfume. He wanted to research the essences that have been in use for thousands of years. He was also curious to discover what was in those extraordinarily aromatic jars offered to the gods to protect the pharaohs, or in the scents used to satisfy the revered Cleopatra. This wonderful visit was enriched from the moment Albert passed through the doorway approaching Ahmed’s home. The impressive garden of his villa contained dozens of flowers that were unknown to Albert.

Albert was overwhelmed by new sensations and when he was unable to extend his already lengthy visit, he planned a second trip four months later with the express intention of finding a unique perfume.

After several weeks of intense work in the villa of Ahmed, Albert Fouquet selected the final details of a new formula after returning to his chateau in Paris. Egypt became part of his exclusive and private perfume collection. It is such a pleasure to share the originality of the best perfumes created by Albert Fouquet and ensure they reach the hands of those fortunate enough to share his lifestyle.

Encens Suave Extrait de Parfum is a powerful and addictive incense based on a unique accord with coffee and vanilla. Matiere Premiere Founder and Perfumer Aurélien Guichard has enriched the original Encens Suave Eau de Parfum with Amber as a guest ingredient. Combined with a higher perfume concentration and an even higher dosage of the main natural ingredient, Incense Oil Somalia, this contemporary Amber note made of resins amplifies the impression of warm richness in Encens Suave.

Scent Profile – Somalian Incense, Cistus Labdanum (Rockrose), Coffee, Loas Benzoin, Madagascan Vanilla with guest ingredient of Amber Resins.

Aurélien Guichard comes from a line of seven generations of perfumers. He perpetuated this family know how by becoming a perfumer at an early age and recently took over a business of rose grower in Grasse.

Each of his Matiere Premiere creations reflects the respect of an oral transmission collected with great attention and tenderness. He consider perfumery as a way of life, where sense of observation, sensitivity to other and generosity are the qualities of the perfumer. His inspiration comes mainly from the exchanges with the people he meets.

Aurélien Guichard is the son of the famed perfumer Jean Guichard who is the director of the Givaudan Perfumery school and an incredibly accomplished master perfumer who grew up in Grasse, where his father grew flowers for the perfume industry. Following in his fathers footsteps he has created some of the most coveted fragrances for the houses of Guerlain, Tom Ford, Narciso Rodriguez, Gucci, Nina Ricci, Comme de Garcons, to name a few
