When I launched my brand in 2007, my goal was to put perfumery back on its pedestal and return it to its former glory, the way perfumery existed in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
For me, perfume is the essential accessory of every man and woman. Each fragrance that I make is imagined and created as the ultimate way to express oneself and all the facets of our unique personalities‘ – Kilian Hennessy
Heir to a long line of cognac makers who were pioneers in luxury, Kilian decided to take up the torch of family tradition. Creating a new luxury brand was definitely a challenge worthy of his predecessors.
His childhood haunts included the family cellars in Cognac. Before graduating from CELSA, he wrote a thesis on the semantics of scent, in search of a ‘language’ common to gods and mortals. Remembering the “angels’ share” as part of his heritage, he was led into the world of perfumery. The “angels’ share” is what the House of Hennessy calls the percentage that – inexplicably – evaporates from cognac cellars, like an offering to the gods.
Many of Kilian’s fragrances today carry this childhood memory as they are reminiscent of the sugar in the alcohol and the wood of the cognac barrels

The cutting-edge dispenser stops transferring the perfume automatically once the container is full, to refill easily at home. Back to Black is a tobacco scent with sweet undertones of Honey. The freshness of the Bergamot of Calabria contrasted by the heat of the spices – Cardamom of Guatemala and Coriander berry of Europe – creates an elegant yet unusual opening. The heart is composed with Honey from Laos, Oliban from Somalia, Cedar from the Atlas and Vetiver from Haïti. A few notes of Oak Moss and Patchouli from Indonesia coat this woody marquetry. This “tobacco” composition is further intensified by powerful Amber notes reinforced with a soft accord of powdery vanilla which provide the power and tenacity to the perfume.

Sun-dried, sifted, cleaned and aired, they eventually release floral and powdery accents together with musk and amber notes.Bois d'Ambrette is a composition around a lesser known vegetal musk: the multifaceted ambrette.
Here, the perfumer Marie Hugentobler chooses to fully express these rich and complex facets. A rare variety, this white cocoa grows in the heart of the oldest plantations, in Piura, north-west Peru. Extracted by hand from the pods, the beans are fermented before being sun-dried and roasted.An elegant and distinctive fragrance, carried by the choice of an unusual ingredient, the white cocoa.
In order to capture the most beautiful facets of this white cocoa, the perfumer collaborated with a French Maître Chocolatier to obtain the perfect roasting, thus revealing sensual nutty and milky notes, with Tonka bean undertone.
After a sweet rum opening, the perfumer Marie Hugentobler unveils the addictive bitterness of the cocoa, comforted by powdery and woody notes. A dry down of light tobacco, patchouli and sandalwood follows, giving Cacao Porcelana its sensual and unique signature.

Rose Ardoise is a daring interpretation of the rose, where the flower reveals itself as urban and mineral.
The perfumer Céline Perdriel highlights two exceptional varieties of rose: the Damascena rose from Turkey, with its floral, fruity and spicy notes, and the Centifolia rose from Grasse, with its round, warm and honeyed facets.
In Rose Ardoise, the perfumer plays on ambiguities, combining femininity and masculinity, transparency and texture, minerality and sensuality. The fragrance opens with fresh, spicy notes of Schinus Molle and nutmeg that reflect the clear, crystalline vibration of sage. Then, the rose expresses itself entirely before progressively melting into an overdose of ambroxan.

Vodka on the Rocks refill evokes the smell of vodka cooled by ice.

Heir to a long line of cognac makers who were pioneers in luxury, Kilian decided to take up the torch of family tradition. Creating a new luxury brand was definitely a challenge worthy of his predecessors.
His childhood haunts included the family cellars in Cognac. Before graduating from CELSA, he wrote a thesis on the semantics of scent, in search of a ‘language’ common to gods and mortals. Remembering the “angels’ share” as part of his heritage, he was led into the world of perfumery. The “angels’ share” is what the House of Hennessy calls the percentage that – inexplicably – evaporates from cognac cellars, like an offering to the gods. Many of Kilian’s fragrances today carry this childhood memory as they are reminiscent of the sugar in the alcohol and the wood of the cognac barrels.
In 2007, Kilian launched his own namesake brand with the ambition of reflecting not only his distinct personality, but also to achieve a perfect alliance between elegance and uncompromising luxury. His “eco-luxe” philosophy that each bottle can be refilled and kept for a lifetime catapulted the brand to the top of the fragrance market and into a niche of its very own.
